In the user settings how do I enable the unique email address? in my tab the check box is grayed out.

I am trying prevent users from creating multiple accounts. I just got my first real user account on a new community site built and the user created 5 accounts with the same displayname....looks really bad on my "users" page. Anyone have some advice for dealing with this?

Also I am wondering about the sign-up process. I want to verify user addresses but I also want to trigger a registration sequence that guides you through a "introduce friends" and "Create Profile"  page. How can I do both? is there a method to redirect after first login?

Thanks in advance

Best Regards,

Mark Hollas

As far as the registration redirect you're looking for, you may be looking at creating your own version of the registration module.

In order to enforce the unique e-mail address, you need to change this in the web.config.  There is a section where the settings are set for the AspNetMembershipProvider.  I think the attribute is called "EnforceUniqueEmail" and it is simply a true/false value pair.

If you want to manage the Display Name, go into the User Settings area.  The link is found after you go to the User Accounts page in the Admin Menu.  In there, you have options to override and essentially remove the Display Name from the end-users editing.  You would want to enter a token value for what you want to see there.  Your choices are [UserID], [FirstName], [LastName], and [Username].

Hello Will Strohl,

I tried modifying the web.config and setting the requiresUniqueEmail="true" for AspNetMembershipProvider, yet it is not being reflected on the portal.

How do I go about solving this issue. I donot want the users with the same email id creating multiple accounts on the portal.

Thanks.

Resolved the issue. Just needed to restart the application from the Host tab.
