I'm somewhat new to this User Role thing, but I'm pretty sure I have the basics down. Here is my question...

I have a site (www.CADeeze.com) where I have training videos available. I have some sample videos that I allow "Registered Users" to view once they register with my site, free of charge. Once registered, they have the option to subscribe to additional videos for a small fee. I call this role "AutoCAD 2008 Videos". When a user with a "Registered User" role goes to view the page with the additional videos (they cannot see) there is also a module that that they CAN see that basically says, "To view these tutorials you must subscribe." Once they subscribe to the additional videos, I want that module to "go away" or not be visible to users now in the "AutoCAD 2008 Videos" role and the module containing the additional videos to be visible. I've got the part working making the additional videos visible by just making it visible to users in the role "AutoCAD 2008 Vidoes". What I can't seem to do is to make the other module go away that tells them they must be a subsciber to view the additional videos. Basically I want that module to be visible to the role "Registered Users", but not visible to "Subscribers".

Hope this makes sense.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Jim,

I suppose the underlying problem is that the Subscribers are also Registered Users. Unfortunately we do not have the ability to explicitly deny visiblity to a given role (we can only set visibility for roles, and exclude those that we do not want to have access).  I believe the best option for you, though it may not be ideal, is to re-structure your site/page workflow so these two modules are not on the same page any longer.

Hope that helps,

Ian

Jim,

I have a module (Text/HTML Deniable) that is available for free my my website (http://www.mitchelsellers.com) that is a module that specifically denies permission to users based on a role membership.  It should meet your needs.

Wow! Thanks a lot. That module works perfectly. Exactly what I needed to limit access to specific user roles.

Thanks again.

Jim
