I am attempting to create a new portal and am getting the following error:

Error: Site Settings is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalSettings.GetSiteSettings(Int32 PortalId) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.PortalManagement.SiteSettings.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

I am running DNN 4.7 on ReInvent hosting service. This is the first time I have attempted to create a new portal and I frankly don't really know what I am doing. I am pretty conversant with DNN but have never tried the additional portal route. Can anyone point me in the right direction to get this working?

check out this post I found:

http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/108/threadid/205315/scope/posts/Default.aspx

All I did was paste DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalSettings.GetSiteSettings into google and viola..it came up.. gotta love google!

I can only hope to one day have a site active enough that google desides to spider me as well as this site!

This error is due to the portal not being properly configured and DNN trying to navigate you to the site.  It tries to get the settings, but there is no settings to find, thus the null reference exception.

Now, the true question is WHY, well that is one that I am not 100% sure about I have encountered this error on my site a few times, and after a bit of swearing (read: gentle pursuasion) it ends up working.  I am not sure if it is a permissions issue, or an issue relating to my admin account, but I have found that changing the admin username to something different, after deleting the failed portal that I will have success...
