Hi there,

A question with SMTP Authentication. I understand it is required to be set up for DNN so mail can be sent from the application.

For each instance or portal do I have to set it up using a specific email account of eaach client?

Can I just use a generic email account for authentication that is on the same server?

Will that mean that all email traffic / bandwidth used by each of the sites will be attributed to the generic domain / account?

ie: if I had several sites: www.site1.com, site2.com, site3.com all using authenticaiton@mysite.com; is all web traffic for mail from all the other account attributed to mysite.com or each of the respective site.com accounts?

Thanks in advance,

Dan

currently, only a shared account for the mail server is supported for all registration emails - I do not expect, that this will cost much bandwidth, since only outgoing text mails are counted, usually of less than 1 kb size each.

OK thanks, but what if the site is using say the OPT IN bulk emailer. is all the outgoing bulk mail then using the authentication mail settings? So if  there is 2000 emails going out and using say my smtp details (not necesarily the clients' smtp details); is the bandwidth attributed to my account or theirs?

default Newsletter module in admin menu uses Host settings, other 3rd party modules might provide the option to enter custom settings. If you have concerns, I would limit bandwith at the mailserver (e.g. to sending only 5 mails per minute).
