Here is my site http://sqlserverexamples.com. I am adding new example to my site periodically 3-5 a week.  I would like the "Recent Example" announement module on the home page to contain the examples for the last week, or x number of recent examples.  Is there a way to do this? Or do I need to write my own module to do this.  If I do need to write my own module any idea how I should get started with writing module and where I might get some code to jump start me writing my own module.

I'm not so sure if Announcements is the right tool for that Job.  You might want to checkout News Articles by Ventrian, it would be better suited for what you are trying to accomplish.  If you do want to keep your existing setup, check out SqlGridSelectedView.  You could write a query to get the latest announcements.  If you do use Ventrian News Articles, check out digMeta.  It will let you write all your content with Windows Live Writer.
