I had someone build my website www.mesquitehomeparade.com using DNN about 2 years ago. Everything has been running great, but now the site has progressively begun running slower. Read some help file that suggest clearing the event log. When I try to access the event log there is no "clear events" button at the bottom of the page as I had read. After reading more help files, i beleive i may not be the "host". My log on and everything i see says "administrator".  Can anyone lend some ideas why the clear button wont show up, or how to retreive or set up a new host without losing the website. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Coyzter,

It certainly sounds as though you do not have a host level account.  From the tone of your post, it seems that you're not in contact with the person who created the site for you...there may be some alternatives if it comes to forcing your way in, but I'd suggest getting in touch with said person, or looking for any documentation he created (not too likely unfortunately). Alternatively, in the short run, if you have file system access to the web site you may be able to use the database login credentials specified in the web.config file to log in and manually clear the log.

Take care,

Ian

DNN has both Host and Administrator type of user accounts. When signed in as a Host you should see both the Admin and Host menus. If logged in as an Administrator, you will just see the Admin menu. There is no way for an Admin to become/add a Host.

Strategies I can think of:
- redouble your attempts to locate/get the username/password for a Host account with the site.
- Backup the entire site - This won't directly let you become host. But it will give you greater latitude to experiment on the site.
- Search to see if you have editing access to the web site database, if so, you might be able to add a host account that way.
- Explore whether you, as an Admin, can create a web site TEMPLATE, and then import that into a new site - where you do know the Host account name and password. This way much of the site may transfer over - but not all.
- http://who.godaddy.com/whoischeck.aspx?Domain=MESQUITEHOMEPARADE.COM gives you ownership information on the domain. If you are one of these people, you should be able to get godaddy to give you FTP/control panel access, allowing to to backup the web site AND database.

Do others have other ideas? Certainly also search these forums, as you are likely not the first person to have this issue!

John and Ian, thank you for your reponses. It appears that I am only able to log on as an admin. I appreciate your reponses, but honestly all remedies would appear beyond my abilities. Could you direct me to someone I could hire to clear the event log or regain access? Kind of at a loss, because the original builder is unavailable. Losing business due to slow load times of the website is surely costing me monwy at this point..
