I have set up a system with an older development environment - ASP.NET 1.1 and DNN 3.3.7 -  for a group I'm helping that is using that environment.  Which version of IIS do I need to use on that machine? Does it matter???

the version of IIS is tied into the windows version: windows 2000 has IIS 5, windows XP has IIS 5.1, windows 2003 has IIS 6, windows vista / windows 2008 have IIS 7

While any version of DNN runs on any windows/IIS version, management in IIS6 is a lot easier than management in IIS 5. So if you have the choice, i would go with either windows 2003/IIS 6 or windows 2008 / IIS 7

Thank you for a great reply!! That's what I was missing - duh! That system is running Windows XP Professional. So, based on what you say, I guess I'll have to use IIS 5.1.  Thank you so much for taking the time to educate another newb!

while windows xp does have IIS, it is not really geared towards hosting websites, you should consider upgrading to at least vista or better windows server (or host the site at a third party hosting company of course)
