We're deploying DNN in an intranet-type scenario with different teams delegated access to different areas of the site.

I need to be able to give all of the section editors the ability to upload files, but can't seem to find any permission in DNN to do this.

Can anyone recommend a solution? I'd really prefer not to make them all admins, some of them really aren't technical and I don't want to be doing twice-daily restores of the database ;)

Alternatively, is there a module I could use for this?

  • Look at the admin/ security roles
  • It's best you create the security role -
  • You then create the users
  • You then go to the file manager folder - create the folder you want them to be able to access
  • You then assign the security role for that folder - which will show at bottom of page -

- Check the security role  - view/edit box. (I'm doing this blind atm  -eg window not open butI think that's what it says)  It then allows a person with that seucrity role to view and edit/upload to that folder you ahve assigned.

Continue this for as many roles as you have.

Hi Nina,

Thanks, that's EXACTLY what I needed. Document uploads now work perfectly.

One thing however - is there any way to do the same for images? At present if inserting a picture in a text/html module when I select the image gallery option I don't appear to be able to upload. Any idea if this is another easy fix?

Yes we have the same issue. The image uploads do not seem to work for non admin roles. It accepts the upload however the file is not actually uploaded.
