Warning... I'm a real newbe... someone else (not avialable anymore) did the original setup of our site.  I have been watching this file on our SQL server "DotNetNuke_Log.LDF" grow for a few months now and it is getting huge, over 21 Gigs!  I have searched high and low through settings via the "admin" and "host" logins but have not found any way to clear, reduce or shut this off as I see no useful purpose for it.  I did find a log setting via the "host" login, "Advanced Settings", "Other Settings", "Site Log History (Days):" that was set to "0" .  The documentation I have indicates default is 60 days.  I set it to 5 to see if the file will reduce.  I have no clue if this will have any effect on the file in question.  I'm going to reboot the server this evening to see if the file gets smaller as I am paranoid about re-starting DNN.  Obviously, I'm lost and need some advise. Please.

The .ldf file is your database transaction log. If the DotNetNuke database is getting backed up regularly then the size of the transaction log should stay manageable. Get someone who knows a little about SQL Server to check the database backups and (hopefully) shrink the log.

This is a database issue though, nothing to do with DNN really, so if you're not confident with what you're doing then probably best not to fiddle with the DNN settings any more . . .

Good luck!

Thanks Rhys, I will look into the SQL loging issue.  As you can figure, I'm not an expert on SQL either or I would have known what was generating the file.

Thanks for the tip

if your portal does not contain critical content and you can stay onlywith frequent backups, you can change backup model to simple, which will stop writing the transaction log at all.

Also, you might check on the actual size of your DNN database as well, to see if your EventLog has grown overly large.

If you need assistance with the SQL Server configuration part, feel free to drop me an e-mail at msellers@iowacomputergurus.com we might be able to help you get it all under control!
