Thanks for responding, Mitch.  I checked the host > schedule and and the indexer task is not showing up there.  There's a search engine scheduler task.  How would I set the indexer task up and how can I check if the mod supports ISearchable interface.  I'm running a clean install of 4.8.2.  I would like for the user to be able to use this control as intended with a site search or searching the web.  I changed the default pub id in the resx files for my google id instead of the deault.  Are there any other hidden codes or id's in this version.  Thanks for helping - this is a really uncovered area.

Hi Andrew,

I suspect you intended to reply to an existing thread instead of creating a new one.  I'll try to answer the questions you posed above without the context of the original discussion.

You can determine if a module supports the ISearchable interface by logging in as a host user, selecting Host/Module Definitions, and selecting the edit link for the module in question.  The "Searchable" checkbox indicates whether DNN detected that the module in question supports the interface.

The search indexer should be scheduled with the following parameters:

Type: DotNetNuke.Services.Search.SearchEngineScheduler, DOTNETNUKE
Frequency: Every 30 minutes / 60 minute retry (by default)
Enabled: Yes (duh? :)
Retain history: 60
Run on event: None
Catch up: Unchecked
Object Dependencies: SearchEngine

Hope this helps!

Brandon

Thanks Brandon - I checked both the schedule and text/html module definition.  They are as you specified, but still doesn't pick up any information in a text module.  Do you know all the files that would be in the calling chain of this search feature?  I am modifing a skin that had only the web search enabled and it looks the same, after enabling the show site option, as the default dnn grey or blue.  Could I reapply the files that would be effected?
