Hi there,

I am new to DotNetNuke development, so downloaded the latest and greatest 4.8.2 from the server. My system configuration is following: -

1.      Windows Vista Ultimate

2.      Visual Studio 2005 and 2008 (tried on both currently struggling with 2005)

3.      IIS7

4.      SQL Server 2005

After unzipping the file performed the following steps: -

1.      I opened the provided solution file in visual studio 2005.

2.      Create the database in SQL server.

3.      Renamed the provided config file (development.config) to Web.config and entered the correct connection string with my sa username and password.

4.      Build the Website and it build successfully.

5.      Started Debugging and as it was suppose to do it went to the install mode. Did the typical install created the super user and admin user accounts.

6.      When the wizard finished it said the installation completed successfully Go ahead to your website AND THAT’S IT.

It stays there for ages and ultimately my Internet explorer crashed. No matter how many times I start debugging again it doesn’t work. If anyone can help me I’ll be very thankful to you guys.

Regards,

Deepak

Deepak,
I feel your pain.  This is how I set up DNN on Vista.
1) Unzip source to directory.
2) Right click on the folder and uncheck the box for read only.
4) Right click on the My Computer and select Manage.
5) Navigate to the web snap in and create a New Website.
6) Point to the folder that you unzipped and make sure to set the website as an application.
7) Make sure to select the version of ASP.NET (not 1.1).
8) Under security enable anonymous access.
9) Add a host header record for the name of the website.
10) Go back to the folder you unzipped and give security to aspnet, network service and IUSR.
11) Navigate to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc and copy out the file called Hosts to your desktop.
12) Right click on that file and uncheck the read only.
13) Add an entry in the Host file for your web site name that you just created and save file.
14) Right click on file and check the read only and copy it back to the folder from step 11.
15) In SQL Server Management studio create a new database and add a user for that database.
16) From the snap in that you were using for the web config, navigate to the section for sql server and under the network configuration enable all but VIA.
17) Open a web browser and type in the name of the website that you have setup.
18) Follow the installation instructions and for the database make sure to select the user that you have given permissions to.

Good luck,

Sean Gahan

I have the same problem on Windows 2008 x86.  I am able to do a successful installation and then it continues to try to load the default.aspx over and over with no success.  When we debug it looks like it spins on the Init method.

Were you able to resolve this?
