 Hi all,

I am running DNN 4.7 with ASP.net 2.0 and having trouble deploying to another server. The database for the DEV environment is called PCMT_Portal_DEV. (SQL Server 2000) I backed up this database and restored it under the name PCMT_Portal_QA. I move the code over another server, change the web.config file to point to PCMT_Portal_QA and copy the machineKey. When I go to run the website I get a "The page cannot be displayed" error.

Is there some other change that needs to be made that I simply overlooked? I also noticed that on the QA server, If I setup another site and name it PCMT_Portal_DEV (the same name as on the Dev server, the site actually works. ) Do both Dev and QA databases need the same names and do both Dev and QA sites in IIS need the same names?

Thanks for any help or advice.

Chris

You need to have a valid portal alias for the new site.  You can manually add it to the PortalAlias table if needed.

Thanks for the reply Mitch. That fixed it. Awesome!

I am able to login to the site now on our QA Server but I am getting the following error:

"A critical error has occurred.
Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that <machineKey> configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster."

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Thanks again,

Chris

If your QA site has "access" to the Dev IIS then you will need to go into the portalAlias table and update the base alias as well. I have tried just adding another alias but it still wants to default to the primary at times.
