So I have in the space of 5 days gotten my head around DNN and have created my own basic module that pulls from a database.

Question now is, if I have a generic list of things pulled from the database listed on my page how do I basically build a module that enables me to place a pencil icon beside each row such that an admin can click on the pencil and have a listing of the data appear only in text boxes with an update button.

One way might be for me to just have a completely separate page that the admin logs into but it would be nice to have say a widgets page that lists my widgets and then have it such that if an admin is logged in they will see the pencils appear.

Basically I am trying to learn how other module developers create editable modules with the little edit pencils : )

If you are using a grid, simply have a column for "edit", toggle it's visibility based on the "IsEditable" property from the PortalModuleBase class.

You can get the edit image from "~/images/edit.gif"

Perfect Mitch thank you .. but of course when you kill one dandelion another 5 pop up in it's place  :) .. couple more questions:

1) Can you give me an example of how isEditable is able to check if I am Host or Admin, versus Joe Bloggs.

2) Slightly different angle with this question ... how do I develop my module such that when I mouseover the top left corner of my module header that little drop down appears (with setting etc.) only with "Edit Dave's Module" in there as well?

3) Last question - I'm not quite there yet probably in my learning curve but I am interested in how I can add the ability to add my module specific settings to the "Settings" drop dopwn link? - For example, sometimes you see in the settings section the ability to manage for instance the ability to use different module skins or to check a box that enables pr disables some functionality within the module.

Thanks in advance Mitch - I appreciate your taking a second out of your busy day for me (how many stars do you have??? -  I have like 5 :) )
