Hi

My site  www.classcampers.com uses a US hosting company.  I also have a www.classcampers.co.uk domain that is regsitered with a UK company and forwards on to my .com in the US.  Now when I make a Google search for "VW Campers" my site comes in number 4 with Google.com but when I search with Google .co.uk it comes in number 90.

I was wondering if rather than have my www.classcampers.co.uk forward to the .com, should I add the .co.uk as an alias to my DNN installation that is hosted in the US and will this help my .co.uk search results get better or make them the same as the .com

Thanks for any advice

From the SEO standpoint google will likely detect the identical content and will only use one of the domains while sandboxing the other. If you want to force the use of one domain over the other while allowing both domains to resolve to the same site, do this:

Assuming you want classcampers.com to be your main domain:

1)     Point both domains to the same name servers, also make sure both of them are aliased to the same IIS site. Depending on your providers control panel this function may be called “domain alias” or something else.

2)     In DNN make sure only classcampers.com is defined as portal alias, leave classcampers.co.uk unmapped to any portal(s).

If someone uses classcampers.co.uk to access your site, DNN will transparently redirect to classcampers.com domain. When it comes to SEO there is a lot of Voodoo science, however what matters is good text based content, age of the domain, and links from other high ranking sites.

This isn't an issue with .com and .co.uk domains.  It's an issue of search engine optimization.

Hi Guys

Thanks for your replys but I think I didnt explain myself.

I want www.classcampers.com domain to have similar results in Google.co.uk than it has got in Google.com

My site is really primarily a UK based site but have made steps to make it more international.  Its just that when someone searches for "vw campers" in google.com I am on the first page but when someone searches for the same term in google.co.uk I am on page 9.

I currently just forward www.classcampers.co.uk requests from my UK domain regsiter to my www.classcampers.com DNN site that is hosted in the US

In order to balance what Google.com and google.co.uk I was wondering if it would be best to add the .co.uk domain as an alias rather than forward it.

Cheers
