A-Team

My site requires the use of HTTPS throughout the entire site.  I would think that the DNN 4.x solution would handle this without too much of a fuss but it appears to require some magic to make happen.

I have set an https:// in my web.config and have searched high and low for the answer to this question.

How do I set my site for https:// access only?

I can connect to my site using the https:// url but when I attempt to login, I am redirected to an http:// url.  Of course this fails and I have to insert the "s" on the http:// so I can get to the next screen.   I would think that DNN would simply use the https:// url that I submitted from my browser and then append any remaining url requirements.

Am I doing something wrong or do we have a "feature" in DNN4.x.

Really need your gray matter on this.  If this is too easy of a question and it is something that any novice can figure out I can accept that answer also and I will continue to investigate to figure out this puzzle.   I am at a standstill for releasing the site until I can get this resolved.

jmc...

Thanks for the redirect.   I am sure this application will work but I am confused as to how the UrlRewrite module is suppose to work.

It appears that there is code to support an 'if https: then https:.   I would like to believe that if the site is accessed using an https:// it would maintain that url prefix and not require a third-party app to push it through another layer to redirect to https://

If I have not choices at this time but to make the $20 purchase it is a small price to pay but I do not like the idea that DNN requires layer upon layer to work properly.   This is not a slam but a plea for help.   The code is there in the 4.02 source library so what am I missing to get it to work?

Thanks again for your input.  It has been quite valuable.

I agree completely, you should not have to add an extra layer to get something as standard as SSL to work properly.  It should be built into one of the current handlers directly in the core.  It should perhaps be one of the standard module settings that allow you to check a checkbox if you want the page secured.  If it where built into the core, then other navigation type modules like the solpartmenu and links modules could perhaps check to see if the page you where linking to was secure before sending you to it, and redirect accordingly.  That way you would prevent the additional page load required when you first go to http and then it redirects you to https.  To my knowledge however, no such thing is supported in the core.
