I would like to know if and how I can launch a application from a DNN webpage?

it's not normally something I recommend as either the asp.net user has to have the rights to run a process on the webserver, which usually means you're granting additional rights, which can be a security risk, or else you have to write code to provide different credentials (and these are then in plain text in your code), but if you want to do this see http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/archives/000133.html for some advice and useful links.

We have had the same project for our client. He asked to run an application on some user submitted data. On security reason we have splitted it for 3 phases:

1) User comes to the DNN site and submits some data at the custom module. This custom module posts special File into special folder (ServiceFolder).

2) There is windows service at the server. This service checks "ServiceFolder" and when founds files inside, then starts an application wtih params. Application returns data to the separate folder "ServiceFolderResult"

3) Second custom module allows user to download results after they are ready.

If you are interesting, we can develop same module for you or at least hope this idea will help you ;)
