We have switched to using Gmail for the email for our domain but now cannot get DNN configured to use the SMTP.

We are using DNN 04.03.04 so have no SSL option in the SMTP settings.  Is there some way to get Gmail SMTP to work wih this verion of DNN?  When we try it we get that it failed

The SMTP server requires a secure connection or the client was not authenticated. The server response was: 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first. 6sm2207705ywn.0

and if we add the :587 to the smtp.gmail.com it produces an error in DNN

Error: Host Settings is currently unavailable.

Any ideas?

Upgrading isn't always an immediate option for a production site unfortunately.

FWIW, I use 04.08.01 and have success with the following settings without using the port number.

SMTP Server and port: smtp.gmail.com

SMTP Authentication: Basic

SMTP Enable SSL: Checked

SMTP Username:username@yourdomain.com

SMTP Password:[password]
