In DNN 4.8.4, if I take the following steps to change the Default Profile Visibility Mode to Members Only, the Profile Visibility does NOT default to Members Only when a User, for example, selects an entry in a Profile list.

1.         Login as an Administrator.

2.         From the Admin menu, select User Accounts to go to the User Accounts page

3.         At the bottom of the User Accounts page, click User Settings to go to the User Settings page

4.         Scroll down the User Settings page to the heading User Account Settings.

5.         Select Members Only from the Default Profile Visibility Mode dropdown list.

6.         At the bottom of the User Settings page, click Update to save this change.

What am I doing wrong? Have I misunderstood how this works? Is it not yet implemented? Is there any documentation on this?

I wonder if I have asked this question clearly enough!

What does the Default Profile Visibility Mode option under User Settings on the User Accounts page actually do? Does anybody know?

Maybe there is a bug, please enter it into the public issue tracker at support.dotnetnuke.com and the QA team will validate it.

Hello,

I do not have a solution but what visibility would anyone see and where would they see it? Do other users see it?

The Profile Visibility Mode (0,1 or 2) defines whether All Users, Members Only or Admin Only can view a Users Profile Property. This has legal ramifications because Data Protection legislation requires that people unambiguously agree to the way their data is used. And, if Users now have to go back into their Profile Properties to specify who can see what, they are meeting this requirement. It's obviously a good thing if it defaults to Admin Only if the data is potentially contentious such as racial group or age. But not such a good thing if the data is less sensitive such as organizational affiliation, perhaps, where Members Only as a default would save all the Users having to go into their Profile to give explicit permission for other members to see which company they belong to.
