Hello all,

I am new to the forum and DNN, have read a couple books and done some basic setup.  Hopefully this has not been answered previously - I have searched and haven't found the answer. 

I have deluxe hosting with GoDaddy.  I installed DNN into a folder on my primary hosted domain - let's call it www.primarydomain.com/dnn.  I am able to log in as host and admin and do all those functions with DNN.  I have other domains that I want to create portals for and they are already set up and have folders.  Let's call them:  www.2nddomain.com, which is aliased to www.primarydomain.com/2nd,  and www.3rddomain.com which is aliased to www.primarydomain.com/3rd.  I know that these are correctly set up with GoDaddy as I have used them in the past with other web software.

So I logged in as host to my main DNN installation and created a parent portal.  For portal alias, I entered www.2nddomain.com  .  I then entered my own path for home directiory (under 'customize') as www.primarydomain.com/2nd (previously setup on GoDaddy for the domain www.2nddomain.com ) . 

I have two main questions - I set up the adminstrator id and pw for this new portal and received a confirmation email.  To administrate this new portal, assuming it works correctly, would I just go to the main DNN installation at www.primarydomain.com/dnn and log in with this new portal adminstrator id and password instead of my main DNN host or adminstrator id (tried that and it didn't recognize the userid/pw).

Is my multiple hosting scenario described above the correct way to do this?  Thank you in advance for any help.

Well, since no one has answered, I can offer my .002 cents. (since I haven't actually done this installation yet)

It would help if you told us what happens when you try to access the URLs to the new portals.  404?

As far as I've read, the DNS for the secondary domains should not be directed (or Aliased) to another folder other than the www.primarydomain.com/dnn.  All should point to the /dnn folder since that's where the only installation of DNN is.  Right?

It is then up to DNN to determine what URL is being requested, look up the appropriate Portal Alias and presenting the user with the correct DNN portal.

Pointing www.2nddomain.com, to www.primarydomain.com/2nd works with other software because you actually have some content there (index.html or whatever).

Well i can answer to your Question as this is one of my recent research and testing results. Firstly let me see did i get you correctly or not.  You are trying to have parent portal and child protals.

Well i can tell you its easy so the solutions has a steps and a few limitations also. Firstly i will tell you about the steps.

-- You will have to go into the hosting control center of Godaddy and then go to File manager and go to your DNN folder where you have installed.

-- Select all the files and folders COPY them to your ROOT. This can be done and only after this your multi portal senario will come into effect.

-- Then go to the host account of DNN site and make secong protal www.2nddomain.com and on godaddy you need to go into the DOMAIN CONTROL and map that domain name to the root where your DNN files reside. ( Please dont point it to the dnn folder point it to the root) and point the primary domain also to the  ROOT.

-- This Process will take about 20-30 min and then try typing your www.primarydomain.com and www.2nddomain.com. It should take you to the new site portal now. If in case it is still not coming then go into the hostsetting then performance setting and clear the cache. After that it should work.

Restriction will be you cannot host any site like HTML pages from the root then.
