Hi,

I was just wondering whats best practise of how to access image paths and root of DNN site...

If I write for instance "./images/DNN_Xls/MicrosoftCertifiedPartner.gif" or "/images/DNN_Xls/MicrosoftCertifiedPartner.gif" in a module located in the DesktopModules folder, the address of the image will be:

http://localhost:1520/DotNetNuke_web/Start/tabid/36/portalid/0/images/DNN_Xls/MicrosoftCertifiedPartner.gif

I want it to be:
http://localhost:1520/DotNetNuke_web/images/DNN_Xls/MicrosoftCertifiedPartner.gif

How do I reference the root of my DNN page so I can work from there no matter from where I try to access it... Isn't there some kind of "root" shortcut that I can use in my paths? "./" ans "/" doesn't seem to work...

Thanks!

Hi,

What I recommend it is putting your images in the portals/0/ folder.  DNN sees this as the root of the folder when the application is running...if you copy any images you want to use to this folder or a folder within this folder you should have no problem accessing your images.

For example if you copy your MicrosoftCertifiedPartner.gif to the portals/0/ folder you would access it by http://www.yoursite.com/portals/0/MicrosoftcertifiedPartner.gif

Hope this helps

Okay.. I will consider moving all the stuff below each portal folder structure...

But how do I refenence the root of the complete site? You know, if I wanna put a link as in Back to start page. That link refers to my domain and "jumps out" of the virtual directory pointing at the specific domain (that is my localhost).

works were dotnetnuke_web is the alias I set for the IIS... I think it is strange behaviour that when referencing the web apps root directory it instead jumps up to the parent of the actual directory?!!...

If i'm reading your post right, you developing your site locally?  using sql express?   Then before you move your site to your live host..You'll need to add a portal alias...for example..www.YourSiteName.com via the host settings.  It also sounds like you may have mulitple virtual folders on your live server which is okay, you just have to use host headers.

When it comes to IIS it doesn't matter what the actual folder name is...you could name your folder DNN_YourSite within IIS copy your files over, and in your host header you would have www.YourSiteName.com taking all those requests.  You would use a DNS entry that points www.YourSiteName.com to the server handling the site and the host header would route the request to the correct virtual directory.

Because you added a portal alias of www.YourSiteName.com via host settings, your DNN instance should work because your DNS, host header and portal alias match up.

If you want to create a back button to a certain page/tab, the easiest way is to navigate to the page within your portal, copy the url that's in the address bar, then go back to page your want to create the link and paste that url.

Hope this helps,

Jerry

Thank you very much for the information! Clears some stuff up! One more question though, isnt there a way to use some kind of ClickLink?page=blablabla or NavURL() or just something smart that can help me navigate between the pages? I mean if have added a page that I want to link to from a module, do I really have to write the long long adress... Isn't there a smarter way to link a specific page? Thanks!!

/Jesper
