I looked at the different file managers and I think the Speerio one is superior (and it was affordable when it was being sold).   speerio.net seems to be down permanently.  Basically I want users to make a file share/repository that has folders that can be managed by other users.   http://www.ideas-then.com/Modules/NewModules/SpeerioFileManager/tabid/126/Default.aspx  -- how do I get this on my site.

I tried snowcovered, but to no avail. They don't seem to have the latest version 3...

A free "file manager module" would be nice.  Something similar to the file manager used by admin accounts.

In other words, a repository with folder capabilities is what I'm looking for. Any suggestions?

There is no good third party file manager at this point. The best hope we have is that the file manager as it is being pulled out of the Admin menu in the upcoming DNN5 release will fill the gap.

If the files uploaded into the tool don't have to be visible to other DNN modules then you can look at the Adverageous Access Manager. The SLS File Manager is also very interesting, but both of these are pricey when all that is really needed is a fully secure-able version of the core manager. Along those lines there is also the TK File Manager on Snowcovered for cheap but this is too buggy for use and the developers are long gone.

M,

I would agree that the Speerio, File Manager Pro Module (FMP) is terrific, and I am still using it on my DNN4 site without any problems.   As an alternative, you may want to check out Document Exchange from Bring2Mind.net which allows you to have users put up files that other users can access.   You can also install that module on a trial period.

As far as I know, the Speerio module is the only one that allows for external access and updates of files and folders (such as with ftp), where the module recognizes any changes made when viewing from within the site.   I do not know if it is possible, but you may want to try connecting with Nic Kalyani directly to see if he will sell a module (possibly without support?), he is part of the DNN Core Team I believe.

Hopefully the Speerio site will return someday with the the FMP module.  Each time I upgrade DNN, I just hope the module is still working properly... so far, no problems.

Speerio = Nik Kalyani from DNN Corp. Drop him an email to see where you can get his stuff. He's working hard for all of us getting the next version of DNN ready. If you want other features like versioning, content search, email notifications, etc, you might want to check out the Document Exchange module.

Greetings Peter,

I did do what you suggested a while ago. It took a couple of tries but eventually Nik responded that he is indeed still active. However with speaking & other DNN core group responsibilities, but never answered if he is still supporting FMP for existing users (such as myself) and where if anywhere, one can purchase additional licenses. While the dropping in and out of the DNN scene is somewhat common for those just learning about DNN, Nik wouldn't fall into this category and in a way creates a greater sense timidness in relying on module developers.

I will however try your module Peter, thanks for making a trial available.

-Ronald
