I'm looking to build a portal that does product reviews and I'm confused about the way to go. Each product will have some descriptions information, links, pictures, videos and sections for comments and user ratings. A home page should be able to have a list view of some of these products - sorted by rating or category for example.

Should I add a new page for each product, base the page on a template. If I do that then I don't see how I can have a list of these pages on the home page that can be sorted by attributes or something without maintaining my own link list.

I could use the blog module and blog each product - then the blog post list would give me some of what I need.

Or is this a case of writing my own module to define this. I can see a data entry for where I enter 10-20 bits of information and then a module which looks up each product from that. Seems like a lot more work that I expected.

If there is a sample somewhere I can take a look at that would help. I don't want to head down one path and after getting a couple of hundred items entered realise there was a simpler way.

Have you looked at the repositry module, it may cover most of your needs

I had not... thanks for the tip I can do more research into this.

Looks I can set up catergories and attributes, but it seems like the only way to 'add' something is to upload items. My 'items' have no uploads associated with them. Each item is a product page - think like on Amazon.

Anyway I will keep looking into this more today and see if I can make it work for me. Thanks

You only need to upload items if that is what you want to do. The Repository module is very configurable and comes with a bunch of 'templates'. Some require file uploads, some have optional uploads and some have no uploads at all.  The DotNetNuke Resource page on this site is using the Repository Module with the 'Business Directory' template. No uploads just info and links. It also uses the companion Dashboard module at the top to filter the Repository by category.

Check out the Admin and Users Guide for the module on the project downloads page. If you have any questions ask in the Repository forum and I'll be happy to help you where I can

I suggest looking into Ventrian.com's News Articles or the Property Agent module. These are the most likely candiates. Note that they are both vastly more customisable than it might appear from their product pages.

News Articles is more for freeform information, whilst Property Agent allows for more structure to be applied.
