I am developing some modules and wish to include integration with Social Networking modules. I wanted to start a thread on this so we can all discuss what SN capabilities the new release of DNN will have and the uniform methods we ALL need for social networking integration. I hope some of you other developers will join in and give some input. I believe the standard is becoming using the UserId, i see some modules already using this such as UMG. I also noticed ActiveProfile is changing its new version to support the UserId. What other things should be standard among all modules to help with integration?

Good idea, it would be great if there were some standards amongst module developers to aid integration. UserID support in the URL is good, as well as templating - for example, if you look at ActiveForums vs the core forums as an example, it is so easy to plug in the Smart-Thinker UserProfile module into the Forum post with templating and yet it is basically impossible to achieve this in the core forum, but it is a fairly simple change with great benefit. This is just an example but it applies to all modules IMHO.

Thanks Rodney for your input. I have been looking over your new release of the groups module the past 2 days. I have some questions on that but they should be answered somewhere else. Other than UserId and templating is there anything else that would be needed to be included in all or most modules to have complete integration with social networking modules? Maybe a set of standards for the templating itself?

And why does this standard forum not notify me of new replies to my posts? GRRRR
