I was updating my development copy of a portal by backing up the databases from the production server and them restoring them to my development machine.  In doing so I receive the following error:

Directory Listing Denied

This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed.

I made a change to the Portal Alias table so rather than pointing to our production site, it would point to localhost.  I am obviously missing something.

There are two things to check first.

Try this First:

  1. Open IIS
  2. Expand the nodes till you see your site
  3. Right click the site and select Properties
  4. Click the Documents tab
  5. Make sure Default.aspx is in the list (move it to the top)
  6. Click Apply and OK
  7. Try accessing the site

If that doesn't work try the second:

  1. Open IIS
  2. Expand the nodes till you see your site
  3. Right click the site and select Properties
  4. Click the ASP.Net tab
  5. Make sure it is set to ASP.Net version 2.x
  6. Try accessing the site

My gut says it is the fist, however it could be the second.

Worse case, try this:

  1. Open the Command Prompt
  2. Navigate to "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727"
    I.e. CD "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727"
  3. Enter: aspnet_regiis.exe -1
  4. Press Enter to run the command
  5. Once the command is completed, close the command prompt
  6. Try accessing the site

Let me know if one of these work or not.

I am working in VS 2005 and this is my local development copy of the site.  Would that make a difference?

Well, better worse case than nothing I guess.  I am just happy to hear that you are up and running.  Enjoy DotNetNuke!
