I've been experimenting with DNN at home using SQL-2000 and default instances and it's been working fine.  At work we use named instances and I've been pulling my hair out for two days.  From all my readking it appeared all I needed to do was change the SiteSqlServer setting in the app_config section of web.config -- nothing is every as easy as it seems!

The settings for the default instance at home works fine (see below)...

<add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=SVR02;Database=DNN3;uid=dnn3;pwd=dnn3;" />

All I thought I needed to do was change the server line to the following but no go...

<add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=SVR02\DEV2000;Database=DNN3;uid=dnn3;pwd=dnn3;" />

If I try running with the default instance settings I get an error stating it can't connect to the database...

Error Installing DotNetNuke
Current Assembly Version: 03.02.02
ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProvider

If I try running with the named instance settings I get the dreaded "Cannot find server or DNS Error" from Internet Explorer.

Can someone please answer this question? I am having the same issues on my work laptop. DNN 3.3.6 cannot find my named instance of SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition. I am sure we are not the only ones.
