I never heared of such behaviour. Do you have 3rd party modules installed for user management or sth related?

Same here, but using version 4.8.4. This is happening with only one user amongst around 500 users so far... and it started happening when our company changed the portal skin. Im not sure if this is related, and its not an option to restore the old skin :(

Any ideas where to look at?

Just wanted to add that recreating the user solved the problem...at least for now.

We'll be monitoring this user and check if this happens again...
