Currently if a user performs a search using DotNetNuke and it returns a blank results page, the page is totally empty.  My client wishes this empty results page to simply say something like, "Sorry no results found".  A bit like 99% of every other database driven website in the visible Universe.

We could also do with tidying up the search results page.  We don't really need the date or the "relevance: 1001", whatever the hell that means.  Can anyone shed light on the ascx file that we need to alter?  Cheers.

How did DNN get to version 4.8.3 with these kind of issues?  I know it's free but they are still competing with the likes of Joomla etc.

DNN is a very large project that is being developed by volunteers and details like this can slip through the cracks.  Look at how many commercial software products have bugs and "features" and they are being paid and it is their primary (everyday) focus.

The files you are looking for are in the Source Code download in the [Archive Root]>Website>admin>Search.

The files are:

SearchResults.ascx

SearchResults.ascx.vb

SearchResults.ascx.resx

I have taken the liberty to update these files to support the message you are requesting and you can download the updated files from here:

http://www.brisingergroup.com/search.zip

NOTE:  I have not had time to compiled or tested this code (just made the changes via notepad) so it may need small changes to work properly.

ALSO NOTE: I offer this code as is with no warranty. You use this code at your own risk .

I will also pass the updated code to the Core Team for consideration of inclusion into the DNN code base, however there is no guarantee it will be accepted.

The support system ticket says it was resulved "3/12/2008", however the issue is still in v4.9.0.  The code I posted above is an update to DNN v4.9.0.  Did the fix get removed for some reason?
