i'm going to be creating a new site for a mobile auction house.  they would like to post photos and descriptions of the items for auction on the site.  once the auction is over, they would like those items to be archived in a 'past auctions' page.  i am looking for a way to not only make this work, but also to make it easy for them to do on their own.  would i need to purchase a 3rd party module for this?  any ideas?

Take a look at the "Property Agent" module at http://www.ventrian.com/

This will allow you to post the photos as well as put the photos in a context with descriptions, etc.  If you aren't sure it will work for you, mention what you are looking for on the forum there.  People are using it for a lot of different purposes.

thanks for the reply bill.  that is what i'm looking for.  i guess the tricky part is moving my items from a 'current' page to an 'archive' page.

I think if you look at the docs for it you will see that you can create user-defined catgories for them.  You can then select which items to view based on category filters. You could have a current and archive selection in one of the filters and have pages to display each.
