The skin I've selected has a coloured bar top and bottom (narrower at the bottom) of the Text/HTML module. Is there a module available that does not have these graphics? Thanks!

the coloring you see is part of the skin and specific container. Just select a different container to change the view. You can do that in module settings on a per module basis, or in Admin > Skins for all modules

You can also go into the "Settings" for the module and uncheck the option to display the container.  This will remove all of borders/graphics around the module.  Note that you have to choose the preview mode to see what it will look like once you save your changes.
