I want to designate visitors from a specific set of IP addresses as registered users without requiring them to login, while keeping visitors from other IP addresses as public viewers. Can a DNN portal be configured this way? How?

I believe the Active Directory Authentication Provider does something like this.  You might check that out to see how to write that sort of code.

I would think that no matter what the users would have to login to get registered access... But you could use a generic account for that.

Not out of the box.  You can use AD Authentication and pass credentials for anyone already in AD, but that's not the same as anyone from an IP range.  There's no way to match an IP range to a user account in DNN.

I am pretty sure IP Filtering is included in the latest version of the Dotnetnuke Authetnication Provider.
