Yep, a load balancer in front of the webheads. In our case we have those webheads talking to the sql server and a common file server.

Generally speaking we've found we can easily gain performance and at load by simple spinning up new webheads and adding them into the LB pool. The webheads would tip over before the DB or LB.

perfect, thanks.

My farm uses MS Wlbs as a software load balancer. In case we want to keep on using it, does DNN require particular affinity settings? For example, our current solution requires single affinity. A user is assigned to one webhead an keep on going on that.

Sorry for the late reply....yes we have our setup for single affinity to get around viewstate issues between the server and client.
