I am looking into the possibilities with 'Premium Modules'. I'd like to give some "administrators" proper administration access, as I currently only give them access to editing content, not adding or moving modules.

I only want them to have access to basic modules (eg text/html) to add, and not others (eg. Account Login).

Is this best done by changing the modules to Premium?

Are there any issues with changing modules to Premium?
Are they all still available to host users?
Will they still work if already placed in a Portal but not made available in the Portal Settings?  ie. Is Premium mostly used to control modules an Admin user can access to place on pages?

Thanks

I always set Modules not to be used by ordinary site authors to premium and only switch one back for a short moment, when I need to place it on a page as a host user myself.

Thanks Sebastian

I think I will have to setup to do the same.

Is there any real benefit or purpose in DNN restricting the premium modules for hosts too?

Just seems quite pointless, as there's no security benefit when a host can enable them - just a nuisance needing to switch it on and off - which is more of a security risk itself when admin can for that short time access the modules!!!

David,

please be aware that Premium was designed for a different use case: hosting on a shared DNN installation, where some portals might get access to additional modules they paid for.

DNN 5 will allow an admin to grant "publish" permission (place module on a page) to roles or users in Admin :: Extensions.

Hi Sebastian

Thanks for that.  I understand it must have been for another use case/purpose.  Has DNN changed that much now? (I started with DNN 4)

Might it be better to drop this premium control when it comes to hosts/superusers?  I understand the shared, particular with administrators but it just seems pointless and a burden for hosts when they have full access anyway - so it actually creates more of a security risk than not having it (by needing it available to all admin when a host is adding a module to a page).

I guess I'll really wait and see in DNN 5 and how it works.  Couldn't update it yet, some errors still but keen once it's all sorted!

Cheers

David
