Can a page be created and hosted within a DNN portal that just returns a small XML or CSV data steam to the browser, without all the banners, menus, containers, etc?

I have a client application that runs on the desktop that I want to enhance to check a web URL via an HTTP GET and parse the returned data to see if an application update is available and if so offer the choice of downloading the latest version.  So I'd like to have a page in a DNN hosted portal that returns the latest application version and a URL to download the latest application.  It does not have to be XML that is returned.  I can even hard code the data to be returned but would rather code an ASPX page to read a database or config file to get the data to return.

So...does my write-up make sense?  If so...can DNN do this, or do I need to host this page outside of DNN?

I was wondering that too.  Not very familiar with RSS feeds from a programmer standpoint.

I really just need to host a web service from within DNN...but I don't need all the fancy stuff...no authentication, etc...just call a URL at get back a tiny XML return.
