I have 300 odd users I want to add to a portal that i have in a spreadsheet

is there a way of bulk importing them?

You'll either need to use a third-party module or do your own import into a temp DB table and then write the needed INSERTs to add those uses to the various DNN tables that handle user info.  Off the top of my head those would be (at the least): aspnet_Membership, aspnet_Users, UserPortals, UserProfile, UserRoles, Users

It'd probably be a lot less work (but still some work) to use a module like Bulk User Manager (it's only $20):
