Hello,

I have several subdomains I would like to make individual portals, either child or parent portals, but I am having issues:

1) I can't make parent portals. I have tried reinstalling DNN on my godaddy account but it's not doing any good.

2) So instead, I make child portals. when I do this, it works, but I'd like to make them subdomains. When I try to make the folder a subdomain, it breaks the DNN site and gives me a runtime error.

3) if I try making the subdomain first and then creating the portal in that folder, DNN tells me the portal name already exists.

any way around this? Thanks in advance!!

First let me suggest this, move away from GoDaddy quickly.  I just move hosting this week because their support was so horrible that I was fixing the issues then instruction them how to fix the problem on their own servers.  I figure if I have to teach them, why am I a paying them.

As for the sub-domains.  You need to configure the sub-domains to point to the install of DotNetNuke.  Each sub-domain will be a child portal.  For instance http://www.mysite.com is the primary, the sub-domain is http://subdom.mysite.com.  The sub is the child.  Create the child portal and give it the alias of the subdomain.  The key is the subdomain must be configured to point at the installation of DotNetNuke.  That should allow you to create multiple child portals.  I didn't create any new parent portals while I was using GoDaddy but I imagine the same principles will apply.  The new Parent domain must point at the installation of DNN and then create it and set the alias to the new domain.

thanks. I repointed the subdomains, and now here's what's happening:

1) when I try to make a child portal with the sub as the alias, DNN tells me "The Portal Name Must Not Contain Spaces Or Punctuation"... kind of an issue for subdomains!

2) if I try to make a parent instead, it seems to not actually be creating a separate site with pages independent of the original, i.e., if I add or delete a page on one site, the same thing happens on the new portal, if that makes sense.

I appreciate the help!

Just wondering if you've had any luck with this yet. I've got DNN 4.9.0 installed in a separeate folder under a domain I registered with GoDaddy...I couldn't figure out how to get the domain to work with my DNN installation except as a sub domain....and then child portals under the subdomain...none with a FQDN...

I transferred a domain to godaddy and have finally been able to get the DNN installation to let me add it as an alias in my portal but then cannot access the portal...I get the default godaddy web page...rather then the DNN portal.

I find it very hard to believe no one seems to know how to make this work right...I only found this out after I moved to GoDaddy...

Just a little frustrated..

nope, no such luck. I may try moving to another host though, simply because I've heard a lot of complaints about GoDaddy on the DNN front. Their whole 'we don't support it but we can't give you a clean uninstall either' line is wearing thin...

I've been messing around with this problem for a month or so and am pretty much over it.
