I need to know how DNN stores user's passwords for their accounts in the DB? Has this been encrypted? If so, when (since which DNN version?)

DNN3 and 4 (currently) uses Microsoft membership component, that stores the passwords in aspnet_membership table. Encryption is set in web.config and is turned on by default.

What about DNN 2.1.2? How is the password stored in MS Access?

there was a seperate field called encryptionkey in the host settings gui, that the user could specify, which then did the encryption/decryption. The setup in dnn3.x/4.x is much better as the key is stored in the web.config, seperate from the database, and the encryption also uses a salt value to make the encryption more resilient to dictionary based attacks.
