Hi,

Is there a simple way to automatically add a user to a specfic security role, without the need for admin intervention. I know one can assign users automatically to security roles when they register, however I am trying to use the roles to filter content based on user interactivity. In other words, I want users to be able to activate sections of the website themselves by clicking a button, image etc

any and all suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks

Dean

You can try using RSVP codes. You can then create a link that includes an RSVP code, which will allow anyone to add himself to the role associated with the RSVP code

I have done a some research into the RSVP code and I still don't find a good example of how to implement this as a "button" or hyperlink. Also from what I have read this requires the user to logout and log back in for the new roles to be active - which is a problem for what I am trying to do. Also I would need to remove a user from a role at the same time.

I am trying to build a demo site as a proof of concept, that progresses the information that a user sees as they interact. By "escalting" the users role with each action, I should be able to hide and display containers and modules on the same page. i.e. the user clicks "complete step1" and they are removed from the role "step_1" and added to the role "step_2" the page is reloaded and all the containers that were visible only to members of "step_1" are now hidden and containers that are only visible to members of the role "step_2" are now visible, all without having to logout and login again.

Is this possible, if so how?

Thanks in advance

Dean

Check out public roles like default Subscribers role: registered users can subscribe / unsubscribe in their own user profile, section Manage Services just by a click.
