Backup your existing files....Backup your SQL DB...make a copy of the current web.config in the root folder save it has web_BACKUP.config...copy the DNN 4.8.4 INSTALL version over your existing files.

Open the web.config that was copied over from the 484 Install.

Open the web.config that you copied and saved as web_BACKUP.config

Follow the 'Configuring Your Setup' that Mitchell Sellers posts here: http://www.mitchelsellers.com/blogs/articletype/articleview/articleid/76/upgrading-to-dotnetnuke-451-from-4x.aspx

You'll need to copy conneciton string info, machine key, Code Sub Directories, etc....to the new web.config.  If you use the link above Mitchell gives specific details.

Once this is done save your new web.config and try your website from a browser...It should try to upgrade your site if you running just 4.8.0....

Hope this helps, good luck

Jerry

If you want to go this route and upgrade your 4.8.0 instance hoping the latest build will fix your problems. I'd follow this guide, and upgrade to 4.9.1. Because you're on a pretty recent version, things should be pretty straight forward.

However, make sure to BACKUP EVERYTHING, SQLDB, zip/copy the dnn folder, etc etc etc....

In all reality at this point in time you are in a bit of trouble.  It looks like you did an upgrade from a pre 4.7.0 release to a version 4.7.0 or later and there was a failure in the installation/execution of the SQL Server scripts necessary to install the Authentication Providers, thus the detailed error message you get regarding authentication providers.

I STRONGLY recommend contacting your hosting provider to see if they have some backups that you could use to roll back to a previous point in time, it might be possible to address these issues, but starting over would be MUCH easier to handle.  If you cannot do that, I would start with the following steps.

1.) Compare the current web.config to a web.config from the DotNetNuke 4.8.0 (Or whatever your "current" version is).  Ensure that you merged everything.
2.) Check inside the \Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProviders folder for upgrade logs, and look for errors
3.) Copy the upgrade package of the current DNN version over your installation again, then navigate to http://www.mysite.com/install/install.aspx, and hope that the install process just hadn't finished.

Once you get this resolved I would be sure to take a much stronger consideration on backups, especially with a multi-portal system.
