I have 40 websites hosted from one installation of DNN  and i am not able to login. it is showing a dotnet error please help me solve this. This is very much required. The url of my site is http://www.courtroomanimation.info/ and for login you will need to go to http://www.courtroomanimation.info/login.aspx and over there i am getting the following error.

Server Error in '/' Application.

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Source Error:

The source code that generated this unhandled exception can only be shown when compiled in debug mode. To enable this, please follow one of the below steps, then request the URL:

1. Add a "Debug=true" directive at the top of the file that generated the error. Example:

  <%@ Page Language="C#" Debug="true" %>

or:

2) Add the following section to the configuration file of your application:

<configuration>
   <system.web>
       <compilation debug="true"/>
   </system.web>
</configuration>

Note that this second technique will cause all files within a given application to be compiled in debug mode. The first technique will cause only that particular file to be compiled in debug mode.

Important: Running applications in debug mode does incur a memory/performance overhead. You should make sure that an application has debugging disabled before deploying into production scenario.

Sorry I cannot be of much help, but was is the last thing that you done (say, a module upgrade, website upgrade, SQL change...) before everything crashed?

Do you have backups? Sometime is the quickest solution in cases like this.

For starters, modify the web.config per the error messages directions.

We need...

<compilation debug="true" strict="false">

and...

<customErrors mode="Off" />

Then post the next error message please...

Sounds to me like a database that has hit a size limit. Check with your host and see if that's the case.

The usual culprits are the following tables:

* The eventlog table if you have lots of admin activity going on and/or haven't cleared out the table in a while (you can clear out the log by going to Admin/Event Viewer.

* if you have the site traffic being logged by DNN, the SiteLog table can fill a database pretty quickly, and quite a few people disable it or limit it's collection history. Also, a scheduled task will clear it out every now and then (see Host/Scheduled Tasks)

* The scheduler keeps a history of activity. See Host/Scheduled Tasks to see if you have the task enabled  to clear this table out every so often.

In a panic? Get the stuff quickly out of a couple of those tables. From Host>SQL run: "truncate table eventlog" or "truncate table sitelog"
