Hello All

Sorry for opening a new thread. But as i need to document it for my company it is more easy for me to do so. Thank You.

I am working for a huge US. Consulting Company in Switzerland. A year ago we designed a new Employee Portal. We planned and designed the site in Joomla. After a while we received the notice, that Joomla is against policy (...) because there are only Microsoft Servers. So then we designed the whole page in Standard html and asp.

Now to my question: As we are planning the 2nd release of that employee portal we would like to use dotnetnuke. Now I need some Professionals to help me with the estimates for the site setup. What do you guys think, how much time do we need for the following setup:

- Setup of DNN on Server

- Integration of Active Directory

- Installation of an Event Module (Join to events etc.)

- Installation of a Gallery Module (upload pictures)

- Installation of a Profile Module (Friends, Network, Profile with Name, Picture etc.)

How much time does that need? What do you think?

Assuming the server is setup correctly (IIS/SQL Server) and you are familiar with DNN it would take 1 day or less without customizations
Customizations (skins/etc) is the time consuming thing, it all depends on exactly what you want to do of course....

In an ideal world I would spend at least a week or more learning everything you need to know about DNN 5.0.1 when it comes out... install it... use it...screw it up.. fix it.... know it inside out....then you get a lot better idea.

Do you need to convert existing content, train employees or anything else?  Those types of things can take a while.  Also, on-site or remote?  Remote always seems to take longer when you have to track down a server admin to change a setting at the server console.

I'd look at something like:

Setup - 1 day
Training - 2 Days user, 1 Day admin
Data conversion, skinning, etc.  - ?  Too few details to estimate.

Hard to tell, if you are doing this yourself you really must eval DNN and set it up yourself and decide what is best for you, if you are hiring a consultant to do this then they will be able to supply you better figures. The devil is always in the detail, generally the thing you didn't think about will take the most time...
