Greetings

this is my 1st thread and I want to congratulate the DNN team for this excelent project.

Now my question/problem :s (and sorry if my question was already answered elsewhere)

I'm new to this app framework and I'm still exploring it. One of the things that I've seen is that there are two kinds of permissions that are possible to assing to a user role on the pages: Edit and View.

Now supose that I what user roles that just to see information, others to be able to edit, but not to delete information, and finally, users with full control of the information. As you can see, I need something like a "middle" permission between View and Edit permissions. Is this possible with the current version of DNN? If not, is it planned to exist something like this on future releases? Finally, if this is not possible on the current DNN, what files and DB tables should I seek and change to make this feature available for my need, whithout "destroying" my DNN instalation :) ?

Hope any can give me a clue :)

TIA

Almeida

additional module permissions need to be defined by the module developer, there are various modules that come with additional permissions like upload or moderate. Besides a module developer can even achieve the situation you described without additional permissions, as besides the view and edit permission, there is allways the page admin, i.e. any person with edit permission for the whole page, who can edit module settings and a module developer can reserve specific options for the page admin. But to repeat clearly: this has to be done by the module developer and cannot be altered by a host or admin.

thank you for your answer.

can you please tell me the name and where I can find one or two modules that have special permissions like the ones you mentioned (upload, moderate) or others? I really need to dig into special permissions and need some help :)

Thank you once again

Have a look at the repository module, availabe from the project's download page at www.dotnetnuke.com, another example is dnnportal-download, available from www.dnnportal.de.

There is a new option in the core since DNN 3.1.1 (AFAIR) for implementing additional rights, called the permission grid. We will demonstrate it in the next version of UserDefinedTable (UDT 3.3.0).

How do you become a module developer?
