Hi all,

I am using DNN 4.8.3. Can anybody please help me to take the backup of our hosted dnn site. We don' t have access to the hosting machine, only we have the ftp access and database. What are the steps involved in taking the backup of dnn website, so that we can restore, when the hosting server crashes for any reason?

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks

Well, you can always get a copy of the file system through FTP and then zip that up and keep it somewhere safe.  For the database, you can run a backup, but the backup file will still be on the database server.  Unless you have access to that server's file system, you'll need to hosting provider to get you a copy of the backup, that won't be something you can do on your own.

Hope that helps,

Your host can have the backup utility, command line or Management Studio or Enterprise Manager, save the file in a folder in your site so you can ftp it.

Unfortunately Tony is right. One of the biggest "bugs" in MS-SQL is that it can store backups only on his own local drives....

But have a look at www.evotiva.com, they are having a free module called BackupScript which could to it all for you.

I have it installed und running and i'm fine with it.
