I have a site that's worked fine for quite a while.  It's running v5 of DNN, and has been since it came out.  But a couple of weeks ago, it started giving the following error message:

Server Application Unavailable

The web application you are attempting to access on this web server is currently unavailable.  Please hit the "Refresh" button in your web browser to retry your request.

Administrator Note: An error message detailing the cause of this specific request failure can be found in the application event log of the web server. Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur.

It will usually start working again after a while, but today, it doesn't seem to want to come alive.  I looked in the application log and couldn't find anything, then I read in another forum message here, that the log referred to the error message is on the actual web server.  I can't see the web server's log since the site is hosted on GoDaddy.com.

Any ideas about what I can do?

Thanks!

try to save web.config to restart the application and after is is running again check out the DNN event log for issues.

Thanks, Sebastian, but saving the web.config file makes no difference.  I tried running sitemap.aspx and all the others I could find, and all of them fail with the same message.

If you are running your own site, the following could be checked...

This will also happen when there are configuration issues in IIS. For example running bad or invalid web service extensions, having the wrong version of extensions on 64-bit windows, bad or invalid ISAPI filters, and application pool setting problems.  Another thing to check in DNN would be custom or 3rd party HTTP Modules.  All of the preceding examples could cause your error.  I would suggest not only checking the DNN event log, but also the Windows Event Log.

Thanks, Will.

Unfortunately, this site is hosted on GoDaddy.com on a virtual server, so they won't let me see any logs.

Also, there are no 3rd party modules.  Everything is plain, vanilla DNN 5.0.
