I'm hosting my site at uplinkearth.com.  The DNN installation was completed and I was directed to login at mysite.com/dnn.
I've created a home page now, and I want to be able to type in mysite.com and get to it.  However, the page resides at mysite.com/dnn/default.aspx.

Do I have to actually edit the index.aspx file at the root and do a redirect? This seems wrong.  What is the proper procedure?
Do I need to mess with an alias?

What version of dnn is this? If it's 4,  I think you need make sure that IIS points to the dnn/ folder.

Did they ask you to install into another folder or did you do this?

Is it not picking it up at all?

Sorry for these questions, but I don't do my site structure on my servers that way, they are always in the root directory where IIS is pointing.

No problem Nina, I love questions..Thanks.

DNN Version 4.  UpLinkEarth made the install into the /dnn subfolder and stated it was the
standard install.

I viewed the root directory for my site and it had an index file there that displayed the UpLinkEarth "parked" page.

I asked if other DNN clients actually had to edit that page and redirect it to the DNN home page and they reluctantly
agreed.  I don't think they actually knew.

I is typical to install DNN in a subfolder under the root?

Well, Jim, there are a couple of things you can do -

  • Ask them to point the IIS record to the dnn directory (out of your control)
  • Put a redirect on the root folder file to point to your dnn folder
  • Drop the DB / site and rebuild in root directory

So, not the perfect choices, but not a perfect world, and we still live in it!

Unless someone else can give a better suggestion.

Thanks Nina, I agree with your logical options.  With regards to the redirect option, I just can't
believe that the creators of DNN intended that novice users of DNN would have to code
a redirect page.

I'll add a 4th option as well: Drop UpLinkEarth.com and go to an alternate provider with a
better understanding and support of DNN.

Thanks,

Jim
