Hello everyone,

I'm trying to design an intranet for our agency where the main portal and child portals have common file manager's.  The reason for this, is that we have one individual who is our "forms" guru and has the authority to make final changes to forms in all departments.  I'm hoping to set up a main agency "home" portal, then have each department with their own "child" portal.  The forms guru could upload forms into the file manager on the home portal, then department portal managers can link to those in their own documents module.

Are there any tricks to doing this?  I notice that from the child portal, when I go to file manager I just see the portal's own file manager, and when I use the document module to add documents, it can only see its own portal's files.

Hi, Rick-
One way to create a cross-portal shared folder is through IIS.

First , set up a physical folder called "SharedRoot" in the root of your "Portals" directory.  This is where all shared files will actually reside.

For each portal that you wish to grant access to the "SharedRoot" directory, go into that portal's numbered directory (i.e., "0" for the first portal, "1" for the second portal, etc) and create a virtual directory called "Shared" (or whatever else you like) and set the physical path to that of your "SharedRoot" directory.

Now, anything added to any portal's "Shared" directory will appear with the same relative path for all other portals that also have a "Shared" directory.

Cheers!

I think I'm missing something here...I created the folder and made it a virtual directory under each of my numbered portal directories, however when I then log into the site and go to file manager, it does not show up there.  I clicked the "synchronize folders" and "refresh" buttons but to no avail.  Is there perhaps a middle-step to getting this to work properly?

thanks again though for the assistance!
