I have my main website www.xxx.com hosted on DNN.  I created a subdomain for my website called subdomain.xxx.com and then created a new DNN portal site for it.  At the time of creating the new portal site, I had to provide an account for the administrator.  I can navigate to the new site in my browser by going to http://subdomain.xxx.com.  However, when I try to login, I get the following error:

A critical error has occurred.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

I have looked far and wide and have found many blogs, forums, etc. with various forms of this same error.  However, I have applied many of the prescriptions I have applied to no avail.  My site is hosted on DNN 3.1.0 with .Net Framework 1.1.4322.2407.

Joe, you might have a hard time getting an answer to this one because you're on such an old version of DNN. Personally I haven't used DNN 3.1 in years, hopefully someone might remember if this is a common problem or not with 3.1.

Have you tried logging in with the Host account to see if you get a more descriptive error message in the event viewer/log?
