Hello. I am trying to create a simple collaboration site, and have granted "Edit Module" access to certain security roles, but they do not have Page Editor access. I want them to be able to post events or announcements, simple stuff. However, the Actions Menu for those module only seem to appear if the user has access to the Control Panel as well.

Is there a linkage between the access to the control panel and access to the Modules' Actions Menu? Is there a way for them to add content through "View" mode?

Sorry if this has been asked before.

Have you set the modules to not display their containers? That's the most likely reason why the action menus won't be showing to module editors. The menus are part of the container. Also, I'm assuming you have appleid edit permissions to each module for your editor role.

Thanks for the reply. Containers are definitely displaying, as the Module Title and Visibility Toggle show up.

I just realized that even logged in as host,  I am forced to switch to Edit Mode before I see the "Add Event" link or Actions Menu. I am currently using the default skin, so it's not something particular to that. I just feel like I am missing some silly setting somewhere.

I am just thinking that my novice end users, simply looking to contribute, the Edit Mode look and feel is quite daunting because it exposes too much of the techy details of the skin.

I'm pretty sure this is a bug deep in the core, I vaguely remember trying this a few months ago and had to hack up the core for the client to get things working right. The control panel doesn't get displayed and defaults to view mode, it doesn't care what modules you have edit permissions to all the actions will be hidden. This is just one more of the amazing examples of bugs in DotNetNuke that WE could fix with a public svn server and concrete patch submission steps.

Well it's not going to be fixed at all if these sort of issues do not get logged in support.dotnetnuke.com with full steps to reproduce as well as stating which modules were effected with DNN 5.0.1...

and Gemini will of course be happy to upload any code fixes that might be provided :).

Thanks...
