I'm currently trying to use dotConnect for Mysql 5.1 to connect to DNN. This is my first time trying to use DNN, as such, I really have no idea what the above error could mean. Any input on how to fix this would be greatly appericiated.

Do you have MySQL dataproviders for DotNetNuke 4.9.0 core and all modules?

I am currently trying to use something called dotConnect with a data provider they provided for it to connect DNN and Mysql 5.1. The article I was following can be found here.

as stated in the compatibility section on the page you pointed to, the latest version of their provider supports DNN 4.7.0 (and only the module versions listed above ). I strongly suggest to use MS SQL, if you want to use all features of DNN and available modules.
