Is there something special that has to be done to get pictures to show up in e-mails sent using the newsletter feature?

When you use files of any kind in email (whether they are external stylesheet references or images), you have to ensure that the full path to the image is specified.  By default, the editor assumes your editing content on the local site and creates relative links (which look good to you in the editor because you are on the local site).  But when they get delivered... the email looks for a relative location of the file and cannot find it.  The answer is to simply add the missing information to the links so that they are "absolute", that is they specify the domain they come from.  See the examples below:

please use fully qualified URLs. the href base="..:" seems to have issues.
