Hi,

I need to register a user with an hyphen in his email address. Unfortunately DNN version 4.4.1 does not accept this as valid email address.

From DNN version 4.5 upwards the RegEx used for email address validation can be adapted via the user settings. But how to do

it in DNN verson 4.4.1???

Thanks for any help,

Wolfgang

I'll be the one to ask the obvious on this....Is there any reason you have decided to not upgrade to 4.5.x (actually going up to at least 4.6.2 would be a better jump)?

I'd think the advantages of upgrading would be worth the effort compared to the effort to track down the appropriate piece of source code, modify it, test and deploy under 4.4.x.

Well, I'm not in charge of maintaining the server and I don't know why an upgrade hasn't been made.

However, I will recommend to make an update, since there seems to be no solution "out of the box" to overcome the problem in 4.1.x.

For the moment I will ask this one user with the problematic email address to provide another one, switching back to his preferred email address as soon as the upgrade has been made.

That's probably a reasonable workaround, since there is no existing solution for the problem and I don't want to get my fingers dirty and modify the source code.

If that user does not have an alternate email, I would suggest a temporary GMAIL account with auto-forwarding.  You could set such an account up yourself without need to have the end user do anything at all.  Just notify the end user of the temporary workaround.

Cheers!

Ok, I will use a GMAIL account as temporary solution until the promised DNN update is available.

So long,
wolfgang
